Soviet Relations Between The Soviets And The United States
Soviet Relations Rivalries exist between nations based on political and philosophical differences, the dynamic between the soviets and the United States was tense because of their ability to foil one another in these aspects. Conflicts between the Soviets and the Americans dates back much further than the Second World War . The American foreign policy prior to World War 2 was based upon the theory of isolationism. Communism was one of the main factors in changing the American foreign policy to one that was much more inclusive. The US felt that they could not afford to be isolationists any longer because of the growing fear of the Soviets and the spread of communism . In 1939, the Soviet Union began to invade Poland and other Balticâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦As you can imagine the Americans and the Soviets were bound to be against one another, their core beliefs and political systems were predicated on the failure of the latter. The first of these American policies was established soon after Pe arl Harbor, when Roosevelt agreed with General Marshall that ââ¬Å"international political considerations should defer to military requirements as long as the war lastedâ⬠. The second policy, emerging in 1943, was that everything possible must be done to win the confidence of Stalin and his associates . The latter part of the foreign policy was soon dropped because of the growing suspicion of the Soviets at the aforementioned Yalta conference . The pre-determined conflict with the Soviets and the United States was integral in the decision to drop the atomic bombs. As previously stated, America felt very threatened by the European superpower that was the Soviet Union. It would have been unrealistic at the time for either of the sides to fight against each other after just recently undergoing World War 2 . The next best thing was to drop the bomb, and in the process show the Soviet Union that America had the means available to easily decimate cities. This show of strength was necessary in keeping the Soviets at bay for some time, as they planned how to counteract the introduction of the nuclear bomb. It gave America the necessary time to

The Learning Ability of the Students Also Correlates Perception
Question: Discuss The Learning Ability Of The Students Also Correlates Perception? Answer: Introducation: Group learning is considered as an excellent approach to enhance the learning process of the students. The university students are provided with the opportunity to engage in their classes by participating in small groups and completing group projects. However, group learning raises several social issues in the learning process. The students often have negative experiences with the group experiences. The group tasks produces anxiety and formation of pressure to accomplish task which creates a negative impact on the learning process. Teachers also do not possess formal training regarding how to facilitate the group learning process among the students. In this regard, the present essay will explore the challenges in group learning process for the students (Hillyard, Gillesie Littig, 2010). In the recent years, the higher education institutions are frequently using small groups for active engagement and building higher order cognitive skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. The Cooperative or group based learning is considered as an active learning strategy. Group learning is considered as an essential learning method as it increases the motivation to learn, increases the retention of knowledge and depth of understanding. Although group or collaborative learning is a beneficial for the learning process, students are not aware of the benefits of the group learning approach which makes them privy of group learning methods. In the group learning process, there are several common sources of dissatisfaction such as it focuses on interpersonal skills. The students also remain unaware about the value of learning through group projects. The major source of dissatisfaction occurs when the formed groups were very large, had several class presentations and little time for in-class meeting. Other sources of dissatisfaction were the poor workload distribution and management problems (Azer, 2005). The teachers can support group learning by facilitating group discussions and collaborative behavior. In the successful group discussion, the teacher should concentrate on the group facilitation process rather than the content. However, changing the teaching style accordingly is quite challenging for the teachers. Due to the lack of formal training, the teachers are unsure about the strategies or the role they can play in the group learning process. It can be critiqued that group learning is in itself a learning process. The students acquire high cognitive and interpersonal skills. Therefore, the teachers should implement strategies for easy and convenient process which facilitates group learning. Another role of the facilitator is to keep the group focused on task and guide them to achieve their goals. With the changing times, the learning environment is also changing which is increasing the significance of the facilitator and group learning (So Brush, 2007). In the contemporary times, a large number of students are preferring distance education due to geographical distances. However, a typical learning environment comprises of interactions between the learner and instructor or learner and learner. They are essential components of the learning process but due to the physical distances, the educators implement different strategies like group learning to facilitate the learning process. In the collaborative or group learning process, the major source of dissatisfaction were tight timelines, workload, poor interface, slow access and asynchronous communication between the communicators. The collaborative learning environment can be enhanced by providing emotional support to the students who demonstrate dissatisfaction with the learning process. Other strategies can be implemented to increase the familiarity and reduce the students sense of distance with each other. In distance learning, it is important that the teachers or the facilitators implement different strategies to foster small group interaction. Interaction with the peers is an important part of the learning process and the students who do not engage in it face different learning challenges. Cooperative or group learning can be used to enhance positive interdependence and individual accountability. While working in groups, the students are often assigned different tasks, some of them can be ill-structured and open, whereas other tasks can be highly structured or closed. The learning of the students and their perception towards the efficacy of group learning is dependent upon the structure of the group tasks . The students have a negative perception of the closed tasks and the groups were not productive in this case. On the other hand, the open groups were open to multiple perspective and solution in flexible approaches. It can be critiqued that in highly structured task, group discussion was not necessary whereas in the unstructured task, collaboration and group discussion was necessary. It built positive perception among the students (Lou, Abrami d Apollonia, 2010). Moreover, the learning ability of the students also correlates with the perception of the students for the group learning. The lower ability students learnt more in heterogonous groups whereas the medium ability students learn more in homogenous groups. It is due to the reason that the low and high ability students try to give explanation to certain phenomenon whereas the medium ability students do not share their learning experience (Dolamans Schmidt, 2006). Although, collaborative and positive learning is beneficial for certain groups, its benefits varies with the characteristics of the programs such as type of program, feedback, learner control, computer experience and task structure. It can be concluded that group learning is an effective approach to teach students theoretical concepts and cognitive learning. However, most often, the students find the process of group learning difficult due to several reasons. Collaborative learning is essential for the students as it assists the participants to reach a common goal, share responsibilities and reach an agreement through open interaction. In group tasks, the students learn to collaborate which is not defined as the shared division of labor but refers to the mutual interaction and shared understanding of problems which is essential in professional development of the students. The group learning methods are commonly used in the problem based learning as the common goal of the group based learning is to obtain a better understanding of the subject through self-directed learning. In the group based learning, the students get a shared understanding of the subject as they are encouraged to ask exploratory questions regar ding the topics that need clarification. However, in the successful collaborative learning, the students need to demonstrate prior knowledge, recall of information, cumulative reasoning, theory building and cognitive conflicts. In order to mitigate these challenges, the teachers can adopt several policies such as experiential designs, observation studies, questionnaires and focus groups. The group learning facilitators should also use perform observations to identify rich and authentic information regarding the cognitive and motivational effects of group learning and adapt their teaching strategies accordingly. A Myriad Of Mysteries Is Contained In The Pages Of The Old Testament.
A myriad of mysteries is contained in the pages of the Old Testament. For centuries, scholars of theology, archeology and anthropology have labored to produce some explanation of the contradictions and impossibilities put forth in these texts. The ancient ruins of lost cities reveal evidence that some writings may be incorrectly dated, or even that they may be false. Faith and tradition give way to speculation that the Bible may be nothing more than a collection of ancient Israelite mythology. Some things, however, prove tantalizingly true. Temple Judaism and its monarchy, for example, are historical fact; the records of surrounding civilizations corroborate the chronicling of their place in the ancient world. Jerusalem was conquered and sacked on a regular basis by the likes of Egypt, Babylon, Rome and finally, Palestine. The temple was destroyed on numerous occasions and its treasures looted and carried off as booty. One mystery connected to these events has captivated the imagination of mankind, inspiring theologians, archeologists, and filmmakers alike: the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant. This ancient coffer, believed to have held the actual stone tablets on which the Decalogue or Ten Commandments were inscribed by the very hand of Yahweh, disappears from biblical mention after the Babylonian exile. Having successfully established themselves as a nation, the Israelites were beaten and taken as captives by Babylon. Enslaved in a foreign land, all hope of regaining their freedom and traditions rested in the power of their God. After seventy years, as prophesied, the repentance and lamentation of the Israelites so moved the King of Babylon that they were allowed to return and rebuild their capitol. The Holy of Holies, or resting place of the Ark in the temple, would, however, remain empty from that time forward. The description of the Ark, given in Exodus chapter twenty-five, indeed explains why it may have been a coveted artifact to rival kings. It was a wooden chest, layered over in gold and measuring more than a yard long and two feet in height and width, respectively. Gold rings attached to the sides made it possible for two handles, also of gold covered wood, to be slid through. The lid of the Ark represented a throne for the very presence of God and was flanked by two cherubim. These winged effigies of heavenly beings, or angels, were in a crouched or kneeling position, as if bowing before the power of Yahweh. Their wings fanned out in front of them creating, in effect, a canopy over the Ark. Moses himself received the description for the Ark from God on Mount Sinai or Horeb; it was only one of several objects that the Lord wanted the Israelites to cast for use in worship. In the wilderness exile, these sacred vessels were carried from place to place and resided in a special group of tents when Israel was encamped. The tents were arranged around a center courtyard, this served as a portable temple for worship. The Ark, along with its accompanying tabernacle, altar, and lampstand, became the very center of Hebrew ritual. The tabernacle was an inner tent, with gold laden wooden poles for a frame and fine, colorful cloth curtains for its sides. Even the curtain rings were made of gold. All of this gold was undoubtedly the spoils that, as slaves in Egypt, the Israelites had coerced from their captors. It was fashioned, for a time, into the golden calf of infamy in the Exodus story. Whenever the nation traveled, the Ark was carried before it on the shoulders of twelve priests who were consecrated specifically for its guardianship. Sometimes a veil of fine cloth embroidered with symbols of the covenant and cherubim of gold thread was draped over the Ark. While in the tabernacle, the veil served as the final separation between the Hebrew nation and the Holy of Holies, access to which was only granted the High Priest. Going on before the Israelites, the priests bearing the Ark sang the praises of God and the power of God was believed to render the column invulnerable to attack. Later, in the book of Joshua, the priests bore the Ark into the river Jordan; the flow of water was stopped up. Rising as if

Human Growth Hormones(HGH) essays
Human Growth Hormones(HGH) essays The topic of whether Human Growth Hormone (HGH) should be administered to children who are considered to be hormone deficient children. Several doctors have been devoted to the serious study of the effects of Human Growth Hormones and have found out a lot about this topic since its first use in 1958. The first known use of it was in 1958 when doctors extracted hormones from cadavers and injected it into hormone deficient children. Although they saw an increase in height the children were still said to be shorter than average. In the 1980s the FDA approved HGH but only for use in hormone deficient children and elderly patients who really need the hormones but since then HGH distributors have turned their companies into hundred million dollar companies due to use of the product by bodybuilders. Although the use of HGH is now legal does not mean that it is morally or ethically condoned by society. In the reading two articles I hope to clarify any concerns of people who are thinking ab out putting themselves or others on Human Growth Hormones. In surveying several articles about the use of HGH in young children to increase the height of hormone deficient children I found an article written by Jenny Everett, a Popular Science assistant editor, where she describes to us about her brother who is considered to be hormone deficient. She asks the question of, should we really be giving a 9-year-old child hormone injections just to treat him for his stature? Jenny tells us when she gave her first shot of Humatrope to her little brother, he knew more about giving the shot than she did, this being his 37th injection. The reason her 9-year-old little brother receives these injections is because he is considered to be in the 1.2 percentile of people who will not grow over 53 when they are fully-grown. Human growth is an invisible but intense process, an intricate and little understood web of genes, hormones and other variables ...

Risk Register Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Risk Register - Essay Example There is a fundamental need for their frequent review to ensure that all the identified risks are managed in the ideal way. The project manager involves all the stakeholders and if need be, end users to provide input information. In addition, it is critical in maintenance of confidentiality and integrity as some items may be sensitive in nature. For instance, examples of risks managed by the register includes, but are not limited to, risk owner information, risk analysis scores, risks controls, operational risks, compliance risks and environmental. The author states that information technology needs thorough analysis of risks because of retrieval of critical information. IT risk practitioners define risk register as a database that provides information on each risk identified. It can benefit from the use of risk register in various ways, as it is able to cope up with risks such as software and hardware failure, viruses, human terror, natural disasters, malicious attacks, accidents an d other emergencies. Several studies show that most projects share common sources of risk. The documented register determines the ideal precautions and steps to undertake in order to manage the IT business risks. The manager and the stakeholders record in the register person in the organisation who owns the risk. Therefore, the level of accuracy is definite, which grants the project manager an easy time in provision of solutions to the risks. Furthermore, there is ease of continuous monitoring and evaluation secondary to improved records.

Rights of accused Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1
Rights of accused - Essay Example Due process refers to the legal principles that the state should respect the rights of all the individuals. It is used in the law to ensure the right of a free trial, and that the court has to listen to both the parties and their evidences before making a decision. The government cannot harm the accused until the exact course of law doesnââ¬â¢t allow them to. The concept of due process has been written in the US constitution but it was originated before it was drafted in the constitution. The concept is older than the English Common Law (Ramen, 2001). It developed from the Magna Carta in England. In the early times, in some of the ancient private court, there was an appearance made at an unrecorded time. It was unofficially recognized by the councils that the accused person also needs some protection against the ruling authority to ensure his rights, life and possessions are protected. This was the time when rough justice was a normal thing, but there still were some leaders who w ould understand the basic rights. There are many aspects that are covered under the concept of due process. The primary role of the due process is to ensure that the government does not take any action against an individual which could result in loss to life, property or liberty. They must provide the individual with a notice and give them the opportunity to be heard. As these legal requirements were tied up by law, any government officer violating the due process will be charged. Before the final verdict is given by the court, the government must make sure the individual is given fair, impartial measures to challenge the state action. Since all criminal cases are against the state, the state offers lawyers to the criminals who can speak their case (Siegel, 2011). The government, at times, abuses the accused individuals and their property, for example by eminent domain for a public purpose without giving the fair value of land. Such

The subject matter of the programme Essay Example for Free
The subject matter of the programme Essay The United States has the highest gun related deaths in the world. Moore links this to the lack of gun control and the president. From childhood games to bomb threats, from shootings to terrorism. One of the main issues the documentary explored was the shootings at Columbine High School in the United States, gun control and how easily accessible guns are in the United States. the very high gun related deaths, violence, mentality, behavior, issues within schools, peer pressure the effect of societies were looked at. Also in questioning was violent video games music. Marilyn Manson came up as a name to blame, but the president was also name to blame. Bowling for Columbine starts with black and white footage of the gun association, this introduces the historical background. Moore uses a number of conventions typical to a documentary. He uses voice over commentary throughout. April 20th 1999 (a typical day in America) footage is used to accompany the narrative. Moores ridicule of the Bush Administration is shown in his voice over saying the President bombs another country whose name he cant pronounce The shot of the statue of Liberty is iconic of representing America. It can be seen as an establishing shot. Verite footage of North County Bank in Michigan, where there is use of point of view shots showing him looking through a brochure and completing a form, in return of a rifle. He uses the humor of sarcasm when asking about the questions on the form he has to fill in to retain the weapon and the fact of how it only matters if your criminally defected but not mentally defected. Moore states a rhetorical question Do you think its dangerous handing guns out at a bank? There is a long shot of Moore when he walks out of the bank, with the weapon held aloft. The viewer would probably be taken aback by this, if not American. Guns given out at banks just dont happen. The viewer would think bank robberies. How easy would it be for someone who has just taken out a weapon in false name (or not) to turn around and hold someone at gunpoint? The scene is accompanied by non-diegetic music, its upbeat and sets the viewers imagination into role. The opening credits are accompanied by black and white footage of youngsters bowling. This represents the effects on youths from a young age, the bowling to take place of the play of children from that of the effects of childhood games to shooting. The Columbine shootings. Later on in the documentary there is a link back to this, as one of the female students who went to Columbine High School said, one of the boys involved in the shootings use to bowl for Columbine. Which is where the title of the documentary may have come from. Throughout the whole of this documentary there is a continuous link to guns. There is a black and white television advertisement, from the 50/60s advertising real guns. These were fake toy guns that looked and sounded real. I think Moore shows this to show how much children are involved in the tradition of guns in America. Moore also uses home footage of himself and his history of gun use to present Americas gun culture and to present himself. He won the NRA marksman award. He then introduces the fact that he grew up in the same State as Charlton Heston where hunting is extremely common. Moore includes a scene of himself at the Hairdressers, where he purchases bullets. His message is just how easily accessible guns and ammunition really are. The viewer would be shocked, particularly with our own Laws and figures as the United Kingdom. In another scene Chris Rock, a comedian, is on stage presenting his views in his own comical way. He talks of gun control and speaks about bullets costing more then there may be less violence. He suggests $5,000 for a bullet and says I would blow your head off If I could afford it! I think Moore includes this because he has a point, it is entertaining and Moore thinks the idea needs to be made. Marilyn Manson came up as a name to blame by America, mainly by the media. But out of all the United States the President, Marilyn Manson was the only one to whom suggested listening. Said within an interview between him and Moore, as the answer to one thing he would say to the youths effected by the shootings at Columbine I wouldnt say anything, I would listen The scene was effective because Marilyn Manson is a well-known artist. Other countries such as Gothic Germany frequently listen to his music but have a significant lower percentage of gun related deaths. Other things to blame were such things as video games, horror films and a TV program COPS In America, presented in Moores way, the media seems to be racially prejudiced. That or the accusers. Big, tall, black man, in around his thirties In both documentaries there are no formal introductions to the subjects. At the beginning of the documentary particularly focuses on the NRA (National Rifle Association) that Moore is a member of, wherefore he introduces himself as an American. Weapons and shooting play a major part in the documentary as they do in America itself. Moore emphasizes on the gun accessibility and how easy it is to retain a weapon and more importantly ammunition for it. In the closing scene, the song What a wonderful world is played over visuals. This is ironic. It is non-diegetic to the whole of the documentary, but leaves the viewer to provoke the viewers thought. Fahrenheit 9/11 The temperature where freedom buns! The main issue in Fahrenheit 9/11 was Fahrenheit 9/11. The devastation and effects it had on the peoples of the United States. Terrorism. The Bush Administration. The presidents connections with the Saudis and Bin Ladens and the Iraqi War. Media footage of Fahrenheit 9/11 is shown. The scene is started by telephone calls of panicking residents with no visuals. Then footage of people looking up in the air. There is no formal introduction to Fahrenheit 9/11 but the viewer automatically interprets this. News footage is shown of the planes crashing into the twin towers, then to people crying and praying. This scene is very emotive; one might question whether it was moral of Moore to include it. I think he did because he knew the reaction he would receive and that it would get the attention he had hoped for. Moore to uses narration to take us through all his findings behind the media. From the 2000 elections to informing us of the relationship between the president and the Bin Laden family. The fact of how the FBI suspiciously decided to fly the whole of the Bin Laden family out of the States just two days after 9/11 without being held for questioning. Also the fact that the Saudis, Bin Ladens and Bush families are all invested in joint financial dealings. The president wouldnt want the American public to discover this. Perhaps Moore saw it his duty to inform the American public. Moore interviews a man who was questioned by the FBI for merely speaking of and questioning the presidents decisions. An over reaction of the FBI and president to prevent terrorism. But this man was not the only one to be questioned. This man says theyre meant to be a state where there is freedom and rights, Theyre denying me my rights as an American citizen There is footage of the U. S soldiers whilst in Iraq. The soldiers admit they did not know why the president had sent them to Iraq and that it was getting to a point when they were shooting anything that moved because they had not a clue of what they were doing. One of the soldiers spoke of how they listen to The roof is on fire by Bizzy Bone. A soldier starts saying the lyrics The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire We dont need know water let the motherfucker burn! Burn! Motherfucker. Burn! As he says this, the image on screen changes to footage of an Iraqi woman clasping onto her family with other women. The backing music plays over the scenes of destruction. This scene is very powerful and emotive. The viewer would not have expected it they would be shocked, at the language, the heartlessness of it and the following scenes of images of young children who had wounds deep as the bone, skin burns, dead people. During this there is emphasis in typography on many facts, figures and quotes with actual footage from real events that help to back Moore on his views. In another scene Royal Marines Officers were frantically recruiting young men, mainly school leavers to join up. This was because of the huge loss of American soldiers that had already been lost in the Iraqi War. An aerial shot of a huge cemetery where the U. S soldiers have been buried is shown, along with typography of the figures of thousands who died. In the second to last scene, an American citizen talks of how she persuades her children to sign up. The benefits and possibilities that the Army offers. To her deep regret, she reads out the last letter she received from her son, who lost his life in Iraq. In the letter, he writes of how negatively he felt towards the president in his decision of sending them to Iraq. The scene is highly emotive, drawing in the viewer as they sympathize with this familys loss. Creating Moores desired affect to persuade the viewer in joining him in his view, against the president. Michael Moore continuously takes advantage of his documentaries to make George Bush appear to have his priorities and concerns with matters other than the American public. He uses his documentaries to convey his own political views and opinions to his audience. His obvious dislike for the president is very apparent as he includes many edited scenes of him. An example of this is shown in the documentary, when the president is on vacation with his brother in Florida on the 10th September 2001, the day before Fahrenheit 9/11. With the aid of editing Moore sets up the cozy smug look of the presidents face after Fahrenheit 9/11, cutting to one of the victims grieving family members. Undoubtedly this brings over Moores view of the Bush Administration, therefore hopefully ensuing in the audiences view, along with the American public. One of Moores purposes for creating the documentaries. Michael Moores main purposes for creating this documentary are to inform his audience of the issues that the mainstream media has missed/not included. Moore wanted to uncover, in his opinion, the fact that the current president of the United States had sent his fellow citizens into war. For reasons only known to him and close partnerships; having little to do with the excuse of an attempt to stop terrorism, capture Osama Bin Laden or prevent Saddam Hussein from using his weapons of mass destruction. Moore uses a considerably large mount of editing; in fact editing creates most of his documentaries. Unfortunately, however fortunate for him, this creates a bias view, which is what the viewer sees. Moore continuously visually documents the weaknesses of the powerful. The main example is the president. Moore captures the presidents sensitive side. Also Charlton Heston, as he walks away from the camera unable to answer Moores request of After that happened you came to Flint to hold a big rally and, you know, I just, did you feel it was being at all insensitive to the fact that this community had just gone through more tragedy? Moore then continues, You think youd like to apologize to the people in Flint for coming and doing that at that time? Moore takes full advantage of the fact that he knows about Heston, having known of the shootings, and the fact that Heston had pretended he did not. In conclusion, Moore has presented two documentaries, from his own point of view, to present his views and some truths. Creating his desired effect, to inform and explain his view.
